Performing nationalism: The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and Sri Lankan Tamil diasporic politics in Switzerland

The history of post-war Sri Lanka has seen an escalation nationalisms that constantly collide. Post-2009, with the end war, reproduction narratives around become intense, home-grown protests for accountability minority injustices continuing to sustain its fervour over time. Within context Switzerland these events in are invariably aligned diasporic engagement. Dominant spaces such as United Nations (UN) Geneva, transnational sites performance long-distance nationalism by Tamil diaspora groups, raising questions legitimacy and claims-making. This paper presents empirical insights how is manifested political engagement, and/ or individuals, formal informal within socio-political landscape Switzerland. It argues modes engagement through rituals performativity scripting iteration claims-making processes enable lobby protest UN arena Geneva during Human Rights Council (HRC) sessions. situates analysis a shift from separatist stance victimhood human rights producing present singular actor albeit complex heterogeneity.
